Lidador Wreck
The steamer Lidador sank in 1878 on its way to Brazil, about 50 m off the coast in around 8 m of water; the 78 m wreck is part of the Underwater Archaeological Park of the Bay of Angra do Heroísmo. It cannot be entered, but identifiable remains are visible, especially the well-preserved bow. Fishing is banned, so salema porgies and young red porgies gather in the water column, and the wreck hosts octopus, several nudibranchs and Madeira rockfish. Reachable from the shore at the Angra naval club (Cais da Figueirinha) or by boat.
