Âncoras do Ilhéu (anchors)

A small reef about 40 m long between the coast and the Vila Franca islet, just off the marina, holding about a dozen centuries-old anchors; the oldest is some 300 years old and the largest over 2 m long, a reminder that Vila Franca was the island's first capital. Morays and nudibranchs are common, and stingrays and red mullet rest on the sand. The position is approximate (the official guide publishes no coordinates) and is for orientation only.

depth: 14–22 m
