Baixa do Frade
A coastal reef about 20 m from the shore, roughly three miles east of Vila Franca do Campo marina. The top is at 7 m (also good for snorkellers), the reef drops to about 14 m to the east, and further out a large rock formation has two small caves. Black coral grows on the eastern slope, dusky groupers sit around the rocks, stingrays rest deeper, and white trevally, almaco jack and barracuda pass in schools. The position is approximate (the official guide publishes no coordinates) and is for orientation only.
