Amphorae Caves

Behind the small Moulia islet, a rocky and sandy reef of gullies, overhangs and swim-throughs hides a cave whose roof is encrusted with Roman amphorae. A team of American archaeologists is said to have attributed the roof to movement of the seabed over about two thousand years. The site is shallow (5–14 m), sheltered and usually calm, with seagrass patches and sandy bottoms where green turtles and stingrays are sometimes seen, and octopus, scorpionfish, bream and damselfish. Visit Cyprus gives the position and calls it suitable for beginners; it is about ten minutes by boat from Paphos harbour.
