Hans Reef
Hans Reef, off the north to north-east tip of Gili Air, is the Gilis' favourite macro site. A sandy patch from about 7 m with garden eels, lizardfish and flounders leads to seagrass with blue-spotted stingrays and then to large pinnacles and sloping valleys. Frogfish, ghost pipefish, seahorses, pipefish, flying gurnards, octopus, cuttlefish and many nudibranchs are regular, and turtles nap on the big barrel sponges.
