I-169 Shinohara Submarine
Japanese KD6A-class submarine (launched 1934), a veteran of the Pearl Harbor attack, that sank at her Truk mooring after a false air-raid alarm in April 1944 with part of her crew trapped inside. Salvage failed and the Japanese destroyed her bow and conning tower to deny her to the Americans; the wreck was rediscovered in 1973. She lies at about 27–43 m and is a war grave with the crew still aboard – look from outside, do not penetrate.
