Yamagiri Maru
Passenger-cargo ship (6,439 t, 1938) converted to a military transport, hit by dive bombers from Yorktown and Bunker Hill on 17 Feb 1944 and sunk north of Fefan with heavy casualties. Hold 5 contains large armour-piercing shells for the fleet's battleships (14-inch according to Pacific Wrecks; often reported as 18-inch); the engine room is an easy penetration. An operator reports a skeleton visible in a storeroom, so human remains may still be present.
