Poland – Lakes (Hańcza, Masuria, Kashubia)
Northern Poland is dotted with glacial lakes, and a few have become classic freshwater dives. Lake Hańcza in the Suwałki region is the deepest lake in Poland and the star: walls, boulder fields and old dugout boats reached from three parking areas at Błaskowizna, with deeper walls on the far shore for technical divers. In Masuria, the Mazurskie Centrum Nurkowe runs a summer base on Lake Mamry with a training course, a steep slope and the Arabella wreck. Lake Wdzydze in Kashubia has a loess wall that drops to almost 40 m. All are cold below a sharp summer thermocline, and Hańcza is dived year-round, even under ice.
