Cape Kane below Belvedere (Izola)
Cape Kane is the eastern, easy-access end of the Strunjan cliff – at 80 m high and 4 km long the tallest and longest flysch cliff on the eastern Adriatic coast – and you can drive dive gear almost to the water below the Belvedere resort. The 2013 PAS sheet describes a shallow, relaxed dive heading west from the jetty: rocky ground with abundant life between 2 and 6 m gives way to seagrass and, below about 8 m, to sand and silt with little life. The shoreline is part of the Strunjan Nature Reserve, where the park lists Cystoseira forests, seagrass meadows with seahorses, octopus, cuttlefish and the protected pen shell, and Mediterranean stony coral.
