Mai Thon Island

Koh Mai Thon is a small island just east of Chalong Bay and one of the closest dive sites to Phuket's main departure pier. It is not a standard day-trip stop but serves as a bad-weather backup, mostly in the wet season, with dives usually on the eastern side at 10–12 m. Dolphins are often seen around the island, though they are shy. Eels and cuttlefish are typical, leopard sharks and turtles are rare, and in 2014 a community group released harlequin shrimp and bamboo sharks here.

depth: 5–12 m
