Beacon Reef
Beacon Reef is the long fringing reef along the east coast of Ko Similan (island 8); Beacon Point at the southern tip is the rockier end, with huge boulders from about 20 to 35 m on white sand. The reef slope holds healthy hard corals and large gorgonian fans, and the wreck of a sunken wooden liveaboard (Atlantis X, sunk 2002) lies on the slope between about 15 and 30 m. Leopard sharks, blacktip reef sharks and sometimes eagle rays pass the deeper southern part. The shallow plateau is popular for sunset and night dives.
