Cavtat Amphora Site
On the Big Shallows (Velika pličina) north-west of the entrance to Cavtat bay lies the cargo of a 4th-century AD ship that carried at least 1,200 North African cylindrical amphorae of oil. It is described as the largest and best-preserved amphora wreck on the eastern Adriatic coast. Since 2001 the site has been covered by a protective iron cage so that divers can view it. Morays and small fish shelter among the jars.
