Phils (Nursery Bommie, St Crispin area)
This small site is on the northern side of a reef about 400 by 200 m between the southern end of Agincourt Reef and the northern end of St Crispin Reef, about 63 km north-east of Port Douglas. McFadyen titled his page Nursery Bommie but notes the site may really be called Phils; it should not be confused with the Nursery Bommie on Agincourt Reef No. 3 that day boats visit. The mooring is on the main reef at about 5 m; divers drop to the sand and there is nothing of interest deeper than about 25 m. Visibility was about 25 m and water 26 degrees C in October. Located in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park: Green (no-take) zones allow diving without a permit, but fishing and collecting are prohibited; tourism operators hold the park permits and the environmental management charge is passed on through the operator. Check the current zoning map before any non-operator visit.
