Pixie Pinnacle
Pixie Pinnacle is a coral pinnacle on the south-west side of Ribbon Reef No. 10 that rises from about 28 to 30 m of sand to within about 5 m of the surface. The top is roughly 20 by 20 m with a sheer drop to at least 17 m before it slopes away. There is a mooring on the north-eastern side; divers swim a circuit round the pinnacle and rise a few metres per lap, often five or six laps. Giant trevally and a lot of reef fish gather around it, and it sits only about 275 m south-west of Pixie Gardens. Located in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park: Green (no-take) zones allow diving without a permit, but fishing and collecting are prohibited; tourism operators hold the park permits and the environmental management charge is passed on through the operator. Check the current zoning map before any non-operator visit.
