Raging Horn
Raging Horn is a point on the western side of Osprey Reef with the mooring on a bommie at about 8 m. A ridge leaves the main reef at 20 m and runs to 30 m, dropping steeply to 100 m or more on the western side and to a 40 m gully before the main wall on the eastern side. Current mostly comes from the south, so dives drift back to the mooring from about 200 m south, passing a home-made fish-attraction device on the ridge; follow the ridge north-west with numerous gorgonias and soft corals and cross to the main wall to see sharks. Visibility is normally at least 40 m. Located in the Coral Sea Marine Park (Australian Marine Parks); Parks Australia notes Osprey Reef is for experienced divers and is protected from fishing. Liveaboard guests need no personal permit (operators are authorised); confirm zoning and rules on the official Coral Sea maps.
