Seven Heaven
Seven Heaven is at the southern end of Ribbon Reef No. 7, just inside the channel between the reef and a smaller reef, about 144 km north of Port Douglas. A large coral bommie rises from over 30 m to 3 m below the surface, about 30 by 40 m on top, with sheer walls down to 12 to 17 m and sand sloping below. The mooring is on the reef top. Divers drop to about 25 m and circle the bommie, rising a few metres each quarter turn, looking for gorgonias, soft corals and a bowl reached through cracks near the top; pelagics are possible at the northern and southern corners where currents run. Located in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park: Green (no-take) zones allow diving without a permit, but fishing and collecting are prohibited; tourism operators hold the park permits and the environmental management charge is passed on through the operator. Check the current zoning map before any non-operator visit.
