Magic Point (Maroubra) – grey nurse sharks
Magic Point, off Malabar Headland south of Maroubra, is Sydney's grey nurse shark site and an Important Shark and Ray Area covering 0–25 m. An east-west rocky wall drops from 8 m to about 15 m, where a larger and a smaller cave shelter the sharks (mostly females); sand starts at about 24 m. Counts ran from 4 to 18 sharks per dive up to 2010, but the sharks were absent for long periods between 2013 and 2024, so sightings are not guaranteed; logged sightings cluster from April to August. Port Jackson and wobbegong sharks, weedy sea dragons, giant cuttlefish and yellowtail are also seen.
