Point Lonsdale Light (Marine National Park, snorkel shore dive)
Port Phillip Heads Marine National Park (highly protected no-take zone: no fishing, no collecting). Point Lonsdale Light is a beginner snorkel site accessed from the lighthouse car park, between the Inner Lonsdale Reef and the pier to the north; at low tide it can be reached along the beach. The seabed is covered in sea-nymph seaweed that shelters juvenile fish and invertebrates; juvenile blue groper are common in summer, with blue-throat wrasse, moonlighters, scalyfin and magpie morwong. The water is nearly always very clear. Do not dive on the incoming tide over Point Lonsdale Reef: you will be swept away.
