The Springs (Marine National Park, shore dive)
Port Phillip Heads Marine National Park (highly protected no-take zone: no fishing, no collecting). The Springs lies at the north end of the Point Lonsdale section and is a major reef system running out more than 300 m to the south-east from shore, split by a ~30 m channel into an inner reef and a longer outer reef. It can be dived from a boat or from shore, especially on the ebb, when a tank diver can drop below the reef lip into relatively current-free water. Sea nymph meadows surround it, and large wobbegong sharks may rest under the ledges on the south-west side. It is a shallow dive for less experienced divers, but with the tide running you can end up far from your entry point.
