Attersee – Ofen (többször lezárva / repeatedly closed)
Repeatedly closed by the authorities – check the current status before diving. The Ofen entry lies in the municipality of Steinbach on the east shore of the Attersee, near the Salzburg border. Its steep walls drop sharply into deep water where visibility is often poor and the temperature only a few degrees, and the site is known for serious accidents among divers going very deep. After a diver went missing in 2018 the security authority ordered a diving ban for the site, and after another accident in June 2025 the site and the neighbouring entries were temporarily closed again.
Facts
- Region: Austria – Salzkammergut lakes
- Area: Attersee
- Level: advanced
- Current: low
- Type: wall
- Coordinates: 47.849613, 13.552782
- Highlights: authorities closed the site after accidents (2018) and again temporarily (June 2025), steep rock walls dropping into deep, dark, very cold water, site of repeated serious deep-diving accidents (80–100 m attempts)
- Closed / banned site: Temporary official closures: a diving ban in 2018 after a diver went missing, and closure of the site and nearby entries after an accident in June 2025. The site was in use again in 2026 (accident in September 2026); its current status is not confirmed. Check current terms.
- Tips: Do not dive here while a closure is in force; ask the ARGE Tauchen or a local base (e.g. in Steinbach or Weyregg) about the current status. This is not a training site: the wall invites depth, and the cold, dark water leaves little margin.
