Lamprechtsofen – szifonok / sumps (Lofer)
The Lamprechtsofen near St. Martin bei Lofer is a show cave at its entrance and one of the deepest cave systems in the world. For years the Bocksee sump marked the end of the accessible part until divers of the Salzburg caving club passed it in 1962; it was later bypassed by a short lockable tunnel. Further sumps deep in the system can only be passed with diving equipment during exploration expeditions, and heavy rain can flood the sumps near the entrance – several groups have had to be rescued with the help of cave divers.
