Baixa dos Rosais
An open-sea reef off the northwest end of São Jorge, about 3 miles from the coast (about 10 miles from Velas harbour). Not a deep dive (the top is around 15 m), but unsuitable for beginners because of the distance and strong currents. Known for large schools of pelagic fish — Almaco jacks, bluefish, yellowmouth barracuda, Atlantic bonito and skipjack tuna — that surround divers; ideal for photography.
