Boca das Caldeirinhas
The sea opening of the Monte da Guia volcanic crater, on its south side, considered one of Faial's best coastal dives. The crater interior is a protected area with restricted access; the dive takes place along its border. A long wide platform at about 10 m leads to a vertical wall dropping to about 30 m and on to 50 m: an exceptional number of moray species and ornate wrasse above, large dusky groupers at 30 m, and a large stretch of black coral in a small cave at about 50 m.
