Cemetery of Anchors (Cemitério das Âncoras)
The other headline site of the Underwater Archaeological Park in the Bay of Angra do Heroísmo: more than 40 anchors left over several centuries lie on the seabed. The northern buoy leads to about 16 m, where anchor No. 555 lies on a large rock; more anchors follow to the southwest, then a vertical wall drops to a sandy seafloor, and at 35 m a large anchor lies upside down. Fish include Moroccan white seabream, large dusky groupers, morays, salema porgies, Almaco jacks and common stingrays.
