Westermarkelsdorf – „Stöpsel” (Fehmarn)
On Fehmarn's north-west coast at Westermarkelsdorf, a sunken mooring tower nicknamed the 'Stöpsel' (plug) is visible from far out on the water. Just off the beach the sand turns into an unusual 'canyon' zone where clay and marl banks form small elongated ridges and hollows up to 1.5 m deep, running out from the shore for about 50 m. The tilted bollard of the Stöpsel is thickly covered in mussels and surrounded by larger rocks with juvenile fish and crabs.
