Strande (Kiel Fjord)
Strande, at the north-eastern tip of the Kiel Fjord, is a classic training and night-dive site. A large car park lies close to the beach and the entry is barely 100 m away; the bay between the outer wall of the Schilksee Olympic harbour and the boat harbour is largely wind-sheltered and only up to 7 m deep, with seagrass meadows and stone groynes. Experienced divers follow the outer stone mole, where algae- and sponge-covered rocks shelter sea scorpions, small cod, eelpout, sea sticklebacks and plaice. Further out, the warmer outflow of the Fullensee attracts perch, and a sunken cable drum is a favourite lumpfish nest in spring.
