Gräbendorfer See (Laasow)
The Gräbendorfer See near Vetschau in the Spreewald area is a flooded lignite pit about 55 m deep; the club that runs the base dives to 37 m. From the jetty a ground line leads from a 5 m platform past a lion sculpture, a Volvo used in a TV crime series, a mannequin with a dog and the columns and vases of a mock ancient city. Deeper targets are a sailboat wreck at about 24 m, a coal-seam edge at about 30 m, a whale sculpture and a Trabant. The water is clear but deep layers stay at 5–7 °C, so a torch and good thermal protection are needed.
