Kulkwitzer See (Leipzig)
The Kulkwitzer See on Leipzig's western edge is a flooded lignite pit of about 150 ha and one of the best-known clear-water lakes in central Germany. Most of the interest is in the plant-rich zone down to about 10 m, with old mining equipment, a sunken metal platform and training platforms at different depths; the deepest parts reach about 32 m. The silty bottom stirs up easily, so good buoyancy matters.
