Möwensee (Nordhausen)
The Möwensee is a 1.2 km long former gravel pit in the 'Goldene Aue' south-east of Nordhausen, dived through the Sundhäuser See base. It reaches 46 m: at site 4 a channel runs north into a small basin at about 45 m. The water is very clear, perch schools in the hundreds, and wels catfish of around 1.5 m are seen near the island at site 5. The east shore is crawling with crayfish, and remains of the gravel works lie in the water.
