Batu Wali
A vertical wall on the western side of northern Banda Besar, with a reef top at 5–10 m, a broad shelf near 30 m and then a drop beyond recreational depth. Massive barrel and vase sponges, bumphead parrotfish, groupers, Napoleon wrasse and barracuda are typical. It lies in a core zone of the marine protected area and is a grouper spawning site; currents can be strong and unpredictable, with up- and down-currents and cool thermoclines.
