Gran Cenote
Gran Cenote lies a few kilometres west of Tulum on the road to Cobá and is one of the best-known cavern sites of the Riviera Maya. The cavern route circles the open basin and passes through shallow overhangs decorated with white stalactites and columns, with freshwater turtles often seen in the open water. Beyond the cavern zone, cave lines lead into the Sac Actun system; cave explorers describe the white formations along the Gran Cenote–Ho-Tul line as exceptional. It is also a very popular snorkelling and swimming spot, so it gets crowded.
