Lake Klivnik (Brkini)
Klivnik is a 3 km long, 56 ha reservoir created in 1987 by a 28 m clay dam on the Klivnik stream in the Brkini hills; it supplements low flows of the Reka and holds back floods, so its level varies. The water is relatively clean and rich in fish, which in summer stay in the warmer shallows along the shore. The deepest part, up to 24 m, is right by the dam where the shores are steep; below about 20 m it is very cold and dark with little life. The lake holds a lot of litter but also several sunken boats in good condition, and the bottom outlet at the deepest point is protected by grates.

- Tips: From the Ilirska Bistrica–Podgrad road turn off at Zalči near Harije, pass the stonemason's workshop and follow the narrow road ~1 km to the dam. Park at the small gravel car park by the dam or along the southern shore track – driving and parking on the dam itself is not allowed. Easiest entry from the car park next to the dam; elsewhere almost any shore works. Plan which part of the lake to visit; bring a torch and appropriate thermal protection (22 °C in the top metres in summer, 5 °C at 20 m). Visibility is good, worse in summer; night dives mainly in the shallows. Fishing and boating also take place on the lake. The SPZ sheet dates from 2013; river gravel, banks and access roads may have changed since.
