Kozjak waterfall pools (Kobarid)
The Kozjak stream drops over six waterfalls on its short run to the Soča near Kobarid. The 15 m Veliki Kozjak falls into a round pool about 20 m wide and up to 5 m deep inside a rock hall open only through a narrow slit in the roof, so a single shaft of sunlight lights the water. Downstream the 8 m Mali Kozjak has carved a narrow, winding pool about 20 m long and up to 3 m deep beneath an old stone bridge. Both pools are small enough to snorkel across, and the sheet describes them as rich in aquatic life.

- Unverified: Unverified: a 2026 visitor guide (adventurousmiriam.com) says swimming in the pool is strictly forbidden, but the official tourist page only says bathing there is 'not appropriate', and no Kobarid municipal ordinance banning swimming or diving at Kozjak was found (the 2012 traffic and riverbank ordinance does not mention it). Whether diving is tolerated, needs permission or is banned is unclear; we also did not confirm whether the falls lie inside Triglav National Park.
- Tips: Park before Kamp Lazar on the old Napoleon road (Trnovo ob Soči), kit up there, walk through the camp, cross the Soča footbridge and follow the signed path – about 25 minutes in gear. In 2026 the path is ticketed (adults EUR 5, 1 April–31 October) and the official tourist page says bathing in the pool is not appropriate; check before you go. Watch out for bathers and cliff jumpers, and for stones thrown by children above Mali Kozjak. Best at low water. The sheet dates from 2012.
