Soča at Dermota
At Dermota the Soča is part of the Solkan hydropower reservoir, so it flows slowly and suits an easy dive. The deepest point, about 13 m, is in mid-channel at the site of a former bridge. Rocky banks and the gravel bottom are covered in algae, with reeds on the gentler banks. Fast-water Soča fish dislike the reservoir, so fish life is limited, and the bottom holds litter including asbestos-cement pipe offcuts from the nearby Anhovo factory. Water is about 5 °C in winter and up to 15 °C in summer; visibility is poor, better in winter.
