Soča under the bridge in Kanal
In the town of Kanal the Soča flows through a rocky channel under the main bridge, where it has scoured a pool around 14 m deep depending on the gravel. Because the river here is controlled by the Ajba and Plave hydropower plants, the current is usually weak. Trout, chub and grayling are seen among the carved rocks, though there is also some human litter. Water is about 4 °C in winter and up to 16 °C in summer; visibility is often poor and generally better in winter.
