Vipava meander at Dombrava
Below Dornberk the Vipava winds across the plain in many meanders, and near the hamlet of Dombrava floods have scoured deep pools on the bends. From a shallow entry on the right-hand bend you can dive upstream past the deepest pool of about 5 m and a faster shallow stretch to a pool on the left-hand bend, home to a wels catfish of around 2 m that shuns divers and cameras. Downstream there are several more pools between weedy shallows. Carp and smaller fish live here, and the bottom is clay with gravel, rocks and fallen trees. The sheet warns of First World War remains, some of them dangerous.

- Tips: From Volčja Draga take the regional road towards Dornberk; in Dombrava turn right at the main junction after the factory onto a narrow gravel track south, follow the drainage ditches about 1 km to the tip of the peninsula in the right-hand bend and park there. Small steps lead to the shallows – the only easy entry/exit, as the banks elsewhere are steep and overgrown. Upstream dive about an hour return, downstream about 30 minutes; downstream shallows are too shallow to swim, so wade back against the current without fins. Visibility is usually poor (better at low water, especially in winter): bring a compass, torch and snorkel. Do not touch WWI ordnance. No diving rule found for this stretch; check locally. The sheet dates from 2017; gravel deposits change depths.
