San Juan reservoir – Playa Dorada
A beach site in the San Juan reservoir (Madrid) with lots of fish life – pumpkinseed shoals, black bass and barbel. Water is clearer down to about 6 m, then murkier with a thermocline; surface temperature is often above 22 °C in summer. The centre says it has not found the bottom limit of the site (listed as 30 m).
Facts
- Region: Spain – Inland Caves, Reservoirs & Rivers
- Area: Madrid – San Juan reservoir
- Depth: 0–30 m
- Level: intermediate
- Current: moderate

- Tips: Buceo H2o (the Guadalajara dive centre that publishes this site) lists no dive rules or level for it; the level here is an estimate from the depth. Reservoir levels change with rainfall and drought, so the exact position is approximate – confirm the meeting point and conditions with the centre. Fresh water needs extra weight and a thermocline-ready suit (cold below about 6 m).
