La Esponja
La Esponja is a small islet south-east of Ibiza, off the Sa Sal Rossa tower and close to the harbour and Platja d'en Bossa, so it is dived by many centres. It is moored on the north side at about 8 m; a steep slope with small green algae drops to about 30 m on a sandy bed with Posidonia, and the wall is followed at a comfortable depth past large rock formations covered in bryozoans, to a rock visor at about 27 m with yellow encrusting anemones and conger eels in the crevices. The islet can be circumnavigated easily and gives shelter depending on the wind. Position from the Consell de Formentera dive catalogue.
